We are witnessing, in real time, a major increase in the buying power of the majority of the people on our planet. Mass affluence, Aging and New technologies (especially in data transmission and storage), all translate into monster opportunities for the greatest companies in the world. Emerging market customers want what we in the West have, and they want it right now! And the great companies of the world are busy providing it to them. Defeat the declinistsbuy companies"In order to support my position as a realist, I thought it would be fun to show the three companies that John mentioned in his writings. Like John, I believe that these are all examples of "great companies of the world." However, the realist in me is concerned about valuation. When looked at through the lens of F.A.S.T. Graphswe see that Nestle (NSRGY) and Coca-Cola (KO) are both fully valued to slightly overvalued, and Nike (NKE) is significantly overvalued. Therefore, although I am optimistic about all three, I would wait for a better entry point before I invested in any of them.

Best Clean Energy Companies To Own For 2015

Natural gas has been an investment darling for some time now, but environmentalists have had decidedly mixed feelings for this relatively new energy source. While, on the one hand, natural gas emits far less greenhouse gas than do coal and oil, it's still a fossil fuel that contributes more to climate change than do clean energy sources such as wind and solar. The jury is still out on the safety of fracking, too. Because the energy investment case is so deeply linked to climate matters, long-term investors would be foolish to ignore these concerns.

Fortunately, there's a strong framework within which natural gas would keep greenhouse gas emissions low and portfolio returns high for years to come. The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) published a report recently that analyzes the climate challenges and opportunities the natural gas boom poses."Leveraging Natural Gas to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions" spells out how natural gas can be a tool for constraining climate change, so long as additional measures are pursued in tandem.

Another area that is intriguing to us is the North American energy sector which looks to have a number of interesting catalysts currently. While the energy sector is at present only a modest overweight in the portfolios, we have been encouraged by several trends taking place for a number of years. These positive developments are also having an impact that goes far beyond the energy sector itself. Many believe that the U.S. will become energy independent and possibly a net exporter of natural gas and oil (currently restricted by law) in the next decade. This opinion is based primarily on the development of new drilling techniques (i.e. horizontal drilling, and high pressure fracking) that have enabled companies to access oil and natural gas reserves in shale formations that were previously not economically viable. The ability to tap into this acreage is a game-changer in our view and is already having a tremendous impact on the economy. Employment rates in these mostly rural areas surrounding the shale basins are very high and companies thus find hiring extremely competitive. Strong labor markets tend to create strong local economies. Oil States International (OIS) has been able to capitalize on this trend by providing housing and other services to oil service workers that are in demand in the area. CST Brands (CST) operates gas stations in Texas, but it is increasingly looking to broaden its product offering beyond fuel. Rail companies like Union Pacific (UNP), Canadian Pacific (CP), Kansas City Southern (KSU) and Genesee and Wyoming (GWR) have also benefited substantially. Given that shale areas are rural and often lacking infrastructure, substantial investment must be made to support drilling and production activities. Without pipelines in place, railroads have been the primary takeaway mechanism for moving production to the various clusters of refining capacity around the United States. In order to serve this demand, massive investment in railcars has been nee

Like it or not, all good things must come to an end.... even for a red hot stock like Cell Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:CTIC). Yes, CTIC is up 111% since the end of 2013, up 14% today alone, and it doesn't look like the bulls have any reason to slow down now. That's exactly why now's the time for current shareholders to be afraid, however - expect it when you least expect it.

Xcel to Buy Wind Power from NextEra - Analyst Blog

Xcel Energy Inc.'s (XEL) operating division, Southwestern Public Service Company, in an effort to boost its renewable portfolio is seeking approval from the New Mexico regulators to procure 700 megawatts (MW) of wind capacity via three power-purchase agreements.

The agreement with NextEra Energy Inc. (NEE) entails wind energy purchases from separate facilities in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico, which will increase Xcel Energy's wind capacity by 14%. The deal includes buying 199 MW from NextEra Energy's Mammoth Plains Wind Energy Center in Dewey and Blaine counties, Okla., 249 MW from the Palo Duro Wind Energy Center in Hansford and Ochiltree counties, Texas and 250 MW from Infinity Wind Resources/Roosevelt Wind Ranch in Roosevelt County, N.M.

These purchases will reduce fuel costs for customers in Texas and New Mexico. Xcel Energy estimates the deal will lead to savings of $590.4 million over 20 years. The additional contracts are expected to double its wind asset base and will bring the total Texas-New Mexico wind capacity in excess of 2,200 MW.

The latest initiative comes on the heels of the extension of the wind production tax credits, which prompted Xcel Energy to make such a move. The company stated that the price per megawatt-hour of energy produced by wind generation is lower than that of natural gas.

Xcel Energy already has a lofty wind energy capacity of 1,500 MW in its asset basket which is linked to its Texas-New Mexico transmission and distribution network. It procures over 600 MW through contracts from the network, which stretches across the Panhandle and South Plains provinces of Texas, six eastern and southeastern counties in New Mexico and parts of Oklahoma and Kansas.

Of late, Xcel Energy has been on a wind power procurement spree as is evident from its May 2013 plans for adding roughly 550 MW of wind capacity in Colorado in the period 2013 to 2016. The latest bid will help the company achieve the renewable generation goal of 30% by 2020.
With increasing preference for clean energy and government legislation to increase renewable generation, we believe alternative resources will continue to put pressure on fossil fuel based power generation. Currently, Xcel Energy carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

Other industry players well positioned in the market are Zacks Ranked #2 (Buy) Entergy Corp. (ETR) and Calpine Corp. (CPN).

AP file/Eric RisbergMicrosoft CEO Satya Nadella Microsoft (MSFT) sales soared 25 percent in the last quarter, largely from cloud computing. But sales of the Xbox, tablets, and Nokia smartphones also contributed to the strong performance, which handily beat Wall Street expectations as the company maintained profit margins. Microsoft's business of selling cloud services to other businesses -- in which companies store their data run their major software on remote Microsoft servers -- doubled, and is now the primary focus of the company, according to the new CEO Satya Nadella. This earnings release follows the earnings announcements from the following peers of Microsoft: Adobe Systems (ADBE), Oracle Corporation (ORCL), International Business Machines (IBM), Google (GOOG), Apple (AAPL), Nokia (NOK) and Yahoo! (YHOO). Microsoft stood out from peers IBM and SAP who recently reported negative earnings results after strong warnings about operating profits while they move into cloud-related businesses, which generally yields lower margins than technology companies are used to. Highlights Summary numbers: Revenues of $23.201 billion, Net Earnings of $4.540 billion and Earnings per Share (EPS) of $0.54. Revenue rose, helped by outstanding performance in the cloud segment and the phone business it bought from Nokia, beating analysts' estimates. Gross margins narrowed to 70.5 percent from 77.5 percent from same period last year. At the same time, Microsoft reported gross margin improvements in its cloud business, despite the cost of building and operating new data centers. Performance focus was more on revenue than the bottom-line: increase of revenue of 25.3 percent vs. decline in earnings of -13.4 percent from same period last year. Ability to declare a higher earnings number? Rise in operating cash flow of 1.8 percent versus same period last year--better than change in earnings. Hot Cheap Companies For 2015

Remember that time when everyone called for indefinitely cheap natural gas? Yeah, scratch that idea -- the cost of futures contracts has doubled from the year-ago period, which is bad news for nitrogen fertilizer companies that purchase their supplies on the spot market. As the most important input for nitrogen fertilizer production, nothing has as big of an effect on the bottom line as natural gas prices. When prices hit 10-year lows in 2012, fertilizer companies captured record profits. Now the trend is abruptly reversing.

Since many companies in the fertilizer industry are adored for their incredibly high payouts, and those payouts are dictated by the bottom line, investors have good reason to worry. The market has reacted by sending fertilizer stocks down in the first four months of 2013. Should you abandon ship in anticipation of deflating bottom lines and shrinking payouts? If you're looking for high payouts but are wary of rising natural gas prices, there is still one stock you can buy. CVR Partners (NYSE: UAN  ) produces high-priced nitrogen fertilizers without usingone iota of natural gas.

Anyone investing in insurance companies should fully understand that these events will happen, and when they do, not to panic-sell, but hold firm and wait for better days.

The price of natural gas, however, has dropped 0.4% today, and wouldn’t you know it, coal stocks are weak. Cloud Peak Energy (CLD) has dropped 4.2% to $16.15, while Peabody Energy (BTU) has fallen 2.9% to $17.27. Arch Coal (ACI) is off 1.3% at $4.45, Alpha Natural Resources (ANR) has declined 1.4% to $5.76 and Consol Energy (CNX) has dipped 0.7% to $31.35.

Before you think the call was all positive, it is not. Arch Coal Inc. (NYSE: ACI) was downgraded to Sell from Neutral. Industry-leading Peabody Energy Corp. (NYSE: BTU) was given a mere Neutral rating, but it does have a $20 target, versus a $17.85 close. Cloud Peak Energy Inc. A ready supplier
Malaysia, which is a coal export powerhouse, is going to be there to help fill the void. However, Cloud Peak Energy (NYSE: CLD  ) notes that Malaysian coal is at the lower end of the quality spectrum, particularly compared to its U.S. Powder River Basin coal. That's a positive sign for Cloud Peak's export hopes, particularly as China looks to clean up the most obvious pollution problems related to coal. Right now, Cloud Peak exports about 5% of its coal, but it plans to increase that as U.S. ports increase their capacity.

JPMorgan’s John Bridges and team think it’s time for investors to start looking for entry points in quality coal miners like Cloud Peak Energy (CLD), Consol Energy (CNX) and Peabody Energy (BTU). They explain why:

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Brendan Mathews]

Compass Minerals (NYSE: CMP  ) is a sleepy producer of a boring product: rock salt. But it has a strong competitive advantage. It owns the world's largest rock salt mine, which luckily is conveniently located near the major deicing markets of the Great Lakes region. This combination of a great mining resource and ideal location provide the company with a wide, crocodile-filled competitive moat.

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Compass Minerals (CMP) is a producer of minerals, including salt, sulfate of potash specialty fertilizer and magnesium chloride. This stock closed up 3.4% at $75.60 in Wednesday's trading session.

    Wednesday's Volume: 913,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 212,481

    Volume % Change: 315%

From a technical perspective, CMP gapped higher here off its recent low of $64.24 with heavy upside volume. This stock recently gapped down sharply from around $90 to $64.24 with heavy downside volume. That move pushed shares of CMP into extremely oversold territory, since the stock's current relative strength index reading is 25.78. Oversold can always get more oversold, but it's also an area where a stock can experience a powerful bounce higher from. Shares of CMP are now starting to move within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade. That trade will hit if CMP manages to take out its gap down day high of $78.20 and then once it clears its 200-day moving average at $79.14 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in CMP as long as it's trending above Wednesday's low of $73.07 or $72.50 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that's near or above 212,481 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then CMP will set up to re-fill some of its previous gap down zone that started near $90.

10 Best Low Price Stocks To Invest In 2015

In the prevailing economic environment where people are finding it difficult to survive the impending crisis, companies which provide the lowest rates as well as innovative products tend to win. Though there is a section of people who don mind splurging on branded products at any point of time, there is a large section of customers who are greatly influenced by price and promotions.

This is what is understood and followed continuously by the packaged food retailer ConAgra Foods (CAG). The company has been performing well, owing to its expansion in the low priced private label products which are faring well since it is lighter on consumerspockets. However, unfavorable weather conditions forced the food company to register a dull quarter. Let us understand the company better.

Driven By Acquisitions

ConAgra keenness of expanding its consumer products segment through a host of acquisitions has been instrumental to its success. However, lower store traffic led to 3% decline in revenue to $4.44 billion. The consumer foods segment declined 7% over last year because of lower volumes. However, the commercial food segment did well with a 1% rise in revenue mainly due to products such as bakery products, specialty potato and private label food products.

  • [By James E. Brumley]

Call it a hunch (because that's all it is), but I think Cardium Therapeutics Inc. (NYSEMKT:CXM) at least belongs on your watchlist, if not already in your portfolio. CXM shares have dropped a handful of key hints that say the bulls are just one good nudge away from catapulting this stock upward.

  • [By James E. Brumley]

To say that Cardium Therapeutics Inc. (NYSEMKT:CXM) has been unimpressive this year - and last year for that matter - would be an understatement. Shares of CXM peaked at $11.90 in late 2011, and spend the next two years making their way back to the August (2013) low of $0.58. The stock has since wiggled its way back to the current price of $0.84, but the effort has largely been dismissed as volatility. Big mistake. When you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, you start to see Cardium Therapeutics shares are on the cusp of a monster-sized rebound.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Jim Royal]

The latest buy for my Special Situations portfolio is Ryman Hospitality (NYSE: RHP  ) . The company operates four of the top 10 largest convention hotels in the U.S., and it converted to a REIT late last year, making it more likely to trade for a higher multiple. In March, I bought $2,000 of the stock, and it has since done little but go down. But Ryman is a solid company with premier properties that deserves to trade at a premium to peers, rather than a steep discount. So I'm adding another $1,000 to my position.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Omar Venerio]

The company has a current ROE of 19.09%, which is higher than the industry median and the ones exhibited by CGI Group (GIB) and Amdocs (DOX). In general, analysts consider ROE ratios in the 15-20% range as representing attractive levels for investment. So for investors looking those levels or more, Teradata (TDC) could be the option. For more attractive ROE, Gartner (IT) and Igate (IGTE) have extremely good ratios. It is very important to understand this metric before investing and it is important to look at the trend in ROE over time.
