Regardless of one views on the Fed and Ben Bernanke, investors will have to come to terms with the inevitability of higher rates going forward. Yet, this shouldn spook the market, as it an indication the global economy is finally pulling itself from the crater created by the implosion of Lehman Brothers and the ensuing financial crisis. Indeed, a host of opportunities are out there to position portfolios to face the coming market phase, from looking at equities and major banks in the U.S., to REITs and increasing exposure to core Europe to take advantage of deals overseas. Investors, though, should be careful of potential shocks including political bickering in Washington and across the Eurozone, and should avoid bonds and defensive stocks.

Also in the news ...
Let's not sugarcoat this one iota: It was a really busy week for earnings news, with network equipment maker QLogic (NASDAQ: QLGC ) , printing and IT specialist Xerox (NYSE: XRX ) , and telecommunication services provider Orange (NYSE: ORAN ) all reporting results. - [By Barel Karsan]
About a year ago, Orange (ORAN) was brought up on this site as a potential value investment. (Back then, we knew it as France Telecom (FTE).) Sentiment was in the toilet. A weak European economy combined with new regulations and an upstart competitor scared investors away, resulting in price to free cash flow ratios in the single digits. But these are exactly the conditions under which investors should be buying. When temporary issues (and there were a trifecta here!) affect a historically profitable business in an industry with barriers to entry, it can create a buying opportunity if investors are running scared. That appears to have been what happened here. The regulatory issues eased up as did the competitive environment, and shares of Orange have risen 60% to what I would consider a more appropriate valuation. Some of the comments I received when I wrote the article last year include: "FTE will end, but I think it has more than enough strength to limp on for another decade at least, dragging on yield hungry investors that don't know any better." "Lets not look at the horrible French economy" "worsening unemployment" "government that loves to socialize, ruin their private businesses" "It's been in decline year after year after year." Such macro-economic, backward-looking forecasts have no place in value investing! Go against the crowd.Disclosure: No position

Orange (NYSE: ORAN) shares reached a new 52-week high of $14.95. Orange's PEG ratio is 0.38.
Rice Energy (NYSE: RICE) shares gained 2.21% to touch a new 52-week high of $28.65. Rice Energy is expected to post earnings of $0.10 in the June quarter.

Finally, because three isn't a crowd when it comes to receiving dividends, we received our $0.2637 per share distribution from France Telecom (NYSE: ORAN ) . France Telecom pays out two semi-annual dividends each year that can vary wildly in size. Like Exelon, France Telecom reduced its dividend by more than 40% recently, but is still pledging to deliver what would equate to at least 0.80 euros ($1.07) this year. That would equate to a yield of 10.8% based on yesterday's closing price, and the prospect of nearly an $0.80 dividend being announced later this summer. Don't be surprised if you see income seekers jumping into France Telecom in the coming months.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Riddhi Kharkia]
While, e-commerce has sabotaged the high revenue times of the brick-and-mortar retailers and left them with squeezed margins, it has done well for another industry. I am talking about the supply chain and cargo industry, which has gained from this surge in e-commerce as it has expanded reach and brought affordability to many households. One of the companies in this industry that has benefitted by this trend and has been on the high horse since the beginning of the year, is FedEx (FDX). This betterment in operations and increasing confidence of investors is evidenced by the 30% surge in stock price over the last 12 months. The company, founded in 1971 and based in Memphis, Tennessee, had a great earnings report recently and, going into the Christmas season, would appear to be a nice play for investors.

Investors will pay close attention to earnings from UPS (UPS) on Tuesday. The shipping giant and FedEx (FDX) rival blamed its poor first quarter performance on that nasty winter weather, but market strategists are expecting the company's earnings picked up steam last quarter along with the economy.

Exchange-traded funds offer a convenient way to invest in sectors or niches that interest you. If you'd like to add some clean-energy-related stocks to your portfolio, the PowerShares WilderHill Clean Energy Portfolio ETF (NYSEMKT: PBW ) could save you a lot of trouble. Instead of trying to figure out which companies will perform best, you can use this ETF to invest in lots of them simultaneously.
The basics
ETFs often sport lower expense ratios than their mutual fund cousins. The PowerShares ETF's expense ratio -- its annual fee -- is 0.70%. The fund is fairly small, too, so if you're thinking of buying, beware of possibly large spreads between its bid and ask prices. Consider using a limit order if you want to buy in. - [By Wall Street Sector Selector]

A lack of profits and the reliance on government subsidies have made most stocks in the renewable energy category pretty poor performers over the years. Just check out the performance of the broad PowerShares WilderHill Clean Energy ETF (PBW). It has lost about 7.5% annually since its inception in 2005.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Roberto Pedone]
Renewable Energy Group (REGI) is a producer of biodiesel in U.S. This stock closed up 11.5% at $15.59 in Wednesday's trading session.
Wednesday's Volume: 1.59 million
Three-Month Average Volume: 634,616
Volume % Change: 235%From a technical perspective, REGI exploded higher here right off its 50-day moving average of $13.83 with heavy upside volume. This move pushed shares of REGI into breakout and all-time high territory, since the stock flirted with some near-term overhead resistance levels at $14.75 to its former all-time high at $15.71. At last check, REGI closed near the highs of the day at $15.75 and volume was well above its three-month average action of 634,616 shares.
Traders should now look for long-biased trades in REGI as long as it's trending above its 50-day at $13.83 and then once it sustains a move or close above its new all-time high of $15.75 with volume that's near or above 634,616 shares. If we get that move soon, then REGI will set up to enter new all-time high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that move are $20 to $22.

Renewable Energy Group (NASDAQ: REGI ) The nation's largest biodiesel producer has been one of my favorite companies to watch in the last year. It appears that the market is finally giving the company's $1 billion in annual revenue a reasonable value. A retroactively instated batch of blending credits from 2012 certainly helped to boost first-quarter income to a record $46.4 million, or a profit margin of 14%. Of course, uncertainty in mandates and production volume obligations seems to punish REG at the end of each year. The nation has plenty of overcapacity to switch on -- or export -- and biodiesel is far from facing the blending constraints of ethanol. So I think the company's future is pretty safe for the time being.

RINs are created with each lot of biofuels produced and act as a way for the industry to track production. They are normally sold with the corresponding amount of biofuels, but can be sold on secondary markets without a physical volume to back it up. Speculation by third parties and fear of running into the 10% ethanol blend wall in 2013 and 2014 caused prices to spike. The volatility may continue for the medium term, but investors may be able to find solace in the country's leading biodiesel producer Renewable Energy Group (NASDAQ: REGI ) . Fool contributor Maxx Chatsko explains why in the following video.
