The U.S. indices struggled to find an identity early in today’s trading, as was the case with stocks from around the globe. With a lack of economic data, big name earnings, or any other catalysts to push stocks higher or lower today, stocks were at mercy of traders’ sentiment, which eventually turned bearish. As such, the major indices finished slightly lower by the end of the day’s choppy trading, with the S&P 500 ending a 7-day winning streak.

The market seems to be showing fatigue particularly with positive onshore oil service data points that may nolonger seem incremental. Investors have become especially focused on potential issues and macro concerns. We believe this phaseof enhanced risk perceptions will pass and still recommend owning selective stocks based on attractive valuations and healthyfundamentals. Of the 16 oilfield services companies having reported their quarters to date, the share price changes have at timesbeen difficult to tie to specific results. … Five of the 12 companies who have beaten earnings expectations have seen their share prices drop on the day, including Basic Energy Services (BAS) (-9.0%), Baker Hughes (BHI) (-2.5%), National Oilwell Varco (NOV) (-1.5%), Oceaneering (OII) (-4.2%), and Schlumberger (SLB) (-2.0%). Advisors' Opinion:- [By Sean Williams]
Send this stock back to the kitchen
I admit to already being hyper-critical of the restaurant industry because of cutthroat pricing practices among peers, strained consumer spending because of higher payroll taxes, and the always looming threat that food prices will soar faster than the industry can raise prices. These provide for me more than enough reasons to suggest sending Bob Evans Farms (NASDAQ: BOBE ) back to the kitchen. - [By Anna Prior]
Bob Evans Farms Inc.(BOBE) reported a lower profit for its fiscal fourth quarter and its fourth consecutive decline in quarterly same-store sales, while also cutting its earnings guidance for the new year.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Arjun Sreekumar]
For instance, Valero (NYSE: VLO ) has replaced all imports of light oil with domestic replacements at its Gulf Coast and Memphis refineries, while Phillips 66 (NYSE: PSX ) recently said that within a couple of years, it aims to use 100% North American crudes at its refineries across the country. That's especially bad news for Nigeria -- a country whose government relies on its energy sector to generate about 75% of federal government revenue.

Among energy stocks, refiners, whose input costs are rising, were losers: Marathon Petroleum(MPC) had dropped by 0.72%, whileValero Energy(VLO),HollyFrontier(HFC) andTesoro(TSO) were down fractionally. Shares of integrated oil-and-gas producer and refiner ExxonMobil (XOM) were up 0.22% to $87.65. Exploration companies have been winners with the price of both oil and natural gas moving higher in July and August.

Kinder Morgan says the plant will cost $370 million, about 80% to 90% less than a full-blown refinery. Valero Energy Corp. (NYSE: VLO) and Phillips 66 (NYSE: PSX) have both indicated they may follow Kinder Morgan lead and build splitter plants of their own.

Even with looking within the US, not all sectors of the energy market are negatively exposed to oil prices. One example is the refining sector. Companies like Valero Energy (VLO); they actually benefit from really low US oil prices, because they are able to buy their feedstockil is a feedstock for the refining operationst cut-rate or reduced prices, and then sell gasoline and diesel fuel on the global markets at much higher prices that are leveraged to Brent, so their so-called crack spreads are actually expanding a lot right now.
